Community capacity building

Community capacity building is about promoting the ‘capacity’ of local communities to develop, implement and sustain their own solutions to problems in a way that helps them shape and exercise control over their physical, social, economic and cultural environments.

Community capacity building is designed as short-term interventions that have long-term affects. Danson has engaged itself in community capacity building intitatives that create short-term outcomes but that enable and grow the long-term capacities of communities.

Corporate social responsibility strategies support building community capacity initiatives

The core of our partners’ mission is improving lives and making a lasting difference in the communities in which they operate. We work with them in their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to support that mission. Strategic programmes and initiatives have been delivered to develop their longer-term relationships with local communities in consistency with the CSR strategy.

A financial donation to a single fund or event would only have short-term benefit for one or a limited number of people. We design initiatives that consciously moves our partner’s CSR activities away from one-off donations towards sustainable partnerships, community engagement and longer-term initiatives, which helps generate longer-term relationships with local communities and ensures a stable operating environment for their businesses.

Successful strategies applied to capacity building initiatives to effectively improving community access to economic opportunities and social development:

  • Prioritising education and training
  • Selecting CSR partners
  • Measuring the impact

Successful initiatives also focus on the following issues with the highest relevance to the core business and the greatest potential impact on the local communities:

  • Improving the quality of life of the people living in the communities.
  • Sustainable application in the communities’ settings
  • Employee engagement.
